How Do I Search Full Art Land Card Kingdom
Equally Zendikar rises, the country falls.
That's right, we're back on the airplane where lands affair. And I'm not just talking almost how many times you can trigger landfall. The very lands we put in our decks also matter, including the basic Plains, Islands, Swamps, Mountains, and/or Forests we choose to express ourselves with.
While at that place are many choices for basic lands, the almost coveted ones are the full-art versions. Recently, nosotros have the new, sleek-bordered Double Masters total-arts; now, Zendikar Rising offers a lot more options for spiffing upwardly our decks.
But nosotros didn't e'er have the luxury of a multitude of full-art options…
Planeswalk with me back to the showtime… Well, not to when Richard Garfield invented Magic, but to the very first set to debut full-art cards!
The Silver Age
Unglued (August 1998)
![](https://blog.cardkingdom.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/unglued-plains-scaled.jpg)
The wackiest prepare Magic had e'er seen at the time, Unglued was all nigh breaking the rules. 1 of the conventions this set defied was what a bones country could look like.
Upward until this point, at that place had never been any total-fine art cards in Magic. It was Magic artist and and then-Wizards-employee Christopher Rush who started the idea*. "Everybody knows" what bones lands do, so why not do away with the textbox to make the art more prominent?
This idea was a perfect fit for Unglued'southward theme, resulting in the outset total-art basic lands!
Unhinged (November 2004)
![](https://blog.cardkingdom.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/unhinged-mountain-scaled.jpg)
Turns out, Unglued'due south full-art bones lands were a striking. Like, a BIG hitting. So, what does a argent-bordered sequel gotta do? Brand more!
But Unhinged's full-art basic lands had to be unlike from earlier. Cheekily, these new lands were "fuller" than their full-art predecessors. Right upwardly to the border!
Surely, this must be "the fullest full-art" set of lands we'd ever run across. (Hold that thought.)
Stick the Landing
Zendikar (Oct 2009)
![](https://blog.cardkingdom.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/zendikar-island-vincent-proce-scaled.jpg)
Upwards until this point, full-art basic lands only existed in silver-bordered sets. That'south considering they're different, just similar the United nations-sets.
Zendikar is when we outset seeing the "land" aspect of full-art lands tie in with the prepare theme.
This was also the first time each basic country type had more than than 1 full-art land card. This made for a total of twenty unique, new full-fine art lands!
Judge Gift Promos (2014)
![](https://blog.cardkingdom.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/forest-judge-gift-scaled.jpg)
1 twelvemonth, for the first time, full-fine art basic lands were made bachelor exterior of a Magic set. They were distributed equally part of the guess gift promo cards program.
Battle for Zendikar (October 2015)
![](https://blog.cardkingdom.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/bfz-jung-park-swamp-scaled.jpg)
Returning to the aeroplane of Zendikar meant living up to the legacy of the previous block. Just as Unhinged following Unglued, Battle for Zendikar released some other set of full-art basic lands.
However, for the offset fourth dimension in full-art basic land history, these lands included reprints: one of each Plains, Island, Mountain, Swamp, and Wood from Zendikar returned.
Lastly, Battle for Zendikar included five full-art options for each basic country type. This beat Zendikar's record, with 20-5 unique full-art basic lands released at one time!
Environmental Disaster
Oath of the Gatewatch (January 2016)
![](https://blog.cardkingdom.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/wastes-swanland-scaled.jpg)
Oath of the Gatewatch belonged to the same cake as Battle for Zendikar merely differed in full-fine art lands.
Wastes was the showtime basic land that didn't produce one of the five colors of mana. Colorless mana was a theme of this prepare. To help illustrate this theme strongly, Wastes was given 2 full-art carte du jour options.
Adjuration of the Gatewatch was also the start set to use full-arts to tell a story. Sometimes, a plane-wide disaster occurs! Wastes cards showed the Eldrazi titan Kozilek laying waste to Zendikar, adding a visual element to the story.
Amonkhet (April 2017)
![](https://blog.cardkingdom.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/amonkhet-forest-scaled.jpg)
Amonkhet block started its first prepare with a plan.
A beautiful aeroplane was overshadowed past ominous, massive Nicol Bolas horns. Amonkhet's denizens were awaiting the arroyo of the second sun. When this second sun appeared betwixt these horns, "the Hours" began.
The total-fine art basic lands perfectly illustrated this passage of time.
In this fix, "the Hours" had not still begun. The art in each land showed a thriving, beautiful plane. And a sunday, just barely reaching the indicate betwixt the horns.
But then…
60 minutes of Destruction (July 2017)
![](https://blog.cardkingdom.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/hour-of-devastation-forest-scaled.jpg)
…the Hours began. The aeroplane suffered calamity, and it showed on the full-fine art basic lands of Hour of Devastation.
Each full-fine art basic land depicted the same place from the same viewpoint as in Amonkhet. But, this fourth dimension, the second sun is betwixt the Bolas horns and the landscape is in disarray.
Pushing Boundaries
Unstable (December 2017)
![](https://blog.cardkingdom.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/unstable-island-scaled.jpg)
Unhinged followed upwards Unglued by making full-art lands with border-hugging art. How could Unstable beat that?
Well, past getting rid of the borders, of grade! These are now "the fullest total-art" lands. These lands were among the showtime borderless cards, testing the technology for future sets to employ.
Modern Horizons (June 2019)
![](https://blog.cardkingdom.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/snow-covered-mountain-mh1-scaled.jpg)
While there have been snow-covered basic lands before, in that location had never been full-art snow lands.
With Modern Horizons adding new cards straight to Modern, this was a smashing time to reprint the snow lands. This was the first fourth dimension there wasn't a set theme or silver border to set a precedent for full-arts!
In that location and Dorsum Again
Theros Beyond Decease (January 2020)
![](https://blog.cardkingdom.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/thb-plains-scaled.jpg)
Before Theros Across Death, every full-fine art basic land depicted a identify. This set was the first time total-art lands showcased something more abstruse.
When yous look at constellations, you can notice symbolism among the stars. So, when you want to symbolize the colors of mana in full-art basic lands, well…
Richard Garfield had come upward with some pretty swell symbol designs dorsum in 1993.
Unsanctioned (February 2020)
![](https://blog.cardkingdom.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/unsanctioned-swamp-scaled.jpg)
The 4th silver-bordered product, Unsanctioned, had some big shoes to fill with full-art bones lands.
In this smaller product, the total-art direction took a new turn: reference each previous silver-bordered set's lands!
From Unglued, the stylized, oval-similar frame surrounding the art.
From Unhinged, a centered carte name with art hugging the edge.
From Unstable, a swooshed border along the bottom of the card.
Become Big AND GO Home
The Godzilla Lands (May 2020)

Following Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths came a Secret Lair drop for bones lands featuring Godzilla. These full-fine art lands are unique for depicting a character from an IP outside of Magic. They're also but available in Japanese — an homage to Godzilla's roots!
Also notable: the frame treatment here is very similar to Theros Across Death's full-art nuts.
Double Masters (Baronial 2020)
![](https://c1.scryfall.com/file/scryfall-cards/large/front/c/c/cc3db531-3f21-49a2-8aeb-d98b7db94397.jpg?1597118248)
True to Double Masters's theme, at that place are ii unique pieces of art bachelor for each land in the set. The only precedent we have for this is Oath of the Gatewatch, which provided ii different pieces of art for Wastes.
The Double Masters full-fine art nuts are reprint, but they featured art that hadn't been reprinted before. However, unlike their previous incarnations, these art pieces received a new card frame treatment – specifically, the style debuted with Theros Beyond Decease.
Zendikar Rising (September 2020)

This fall, we're revisiting Zendikar once more, including its beloved bowl Island. Over again, Zendikar Rising volition characteristic full-art lands – three to Zendikar'south four and Battle for Zendikar's v.
Unlike previous Zendikar lands, these full-art basics tell a story. Every bit with Oath of the Gatewatch and Hour of Devastation, nosotros see a Zendikar after a planar-wide event. At that place is droppings pockmarked with diamond shapes, reminiscent of the colorless mana symbol – a reminder that nosotros've moved beyond Eldrazi.
We've finally returned to the Zendikar nosotros first met, over a decade ago. Welcome back.
